A naming ceremony is a non-religious ceremony and a wonderful way to celebrate the birth of your baby. It is an opportunity to mark the occasion by inviting family and friends to understand your choice of names as well as inviting them to help bless your child with a quality or virtue for his or her life ahead. During the ceremony you, as parents, state your love and commitment to your child and declare your hopes for their future. You can choose to read poetry or a favourite piece of prose, with music playing in the background.
Rather than godparents, whose traditional role is to help guide the child in a Christian life, “supporting adults” “good parents” or “mentors” (who may be friends or family) just need to say that they will be there for your child as he or she grows up and throughout their life in whatever way is needed.
